    At this point we are looking at leaving on Wednesday night after work and maybe get up to Indian River or so.  That gives us a much larger jump on the trip and more time in Milwaukee- it also reduces the miles per day.  It will be Intersate to Sault Ste Marie and two lane highway after that.

I checked the Ferry Websites:
The Badger: http://www.ssbadger.com/scheduleFares.asp  (Manitowoc to Ludington cost, $29.00 one way for the motorcycle, and $47.00 for the rider.  Total:   $76.00.)  
    The trip takes about 4 hours, departing Maitowoc at 1:15 pm and arriving in Ludington at 6:15 pm.  The "redeye" leaves Manitowoc at 12:30 am and arrives at 5:30 am (1 hour time change).  We would need to take our own tie-downs, 2 per bike.

The Lake Express: http://www.lake-express.com/htmdocs/pricing/index.html (Milwaukee to Muskegon cost, $31.25 one way for the motorcycle, $51.25 for the rider.  Total: $82.50)
    The Lake Express has 3 round trips daily (2 which would interest us)- leave Milwaukee at 6am, arrive in Muskegon at 9:30 am, or depart Milwaukee at 12:30 pm and arrive in Muskegon at 4:00 pm.  We can discuss which one to take.  The Lake Express provides tie downs, although you may take your own.

    Both ferries can take as many bikes as we have- there is no limit.
